The idea is a great one, and it's one I plan to finish. I will put a deadline of getting it done before I turn 30, which is some 30 months away. I would like to add photos and scans of other potential artifacts that consume my life. But one of the hard things that I find is filtering everything I want to write about.
I don't have my list in front of me, but the list had many subjects that I could go very deep into. Stories that I could tell that were interesting, and lots that were not so much. To help myself write, I am going to list one right here and now. It's a good sub-topic for my book: Cars I've Owned.
Lets get this list moving along:
- 1986 Buick Century Limited - Gray
- 1986 Ford Mustang Convertible LX - Red
- 1986 Ford Mustang Convertible LX - Blue
- 1990 Honda Accord - Champagne
- 1989 Honda Civic - White
- 1997 Honda CRV - Green
- 1995 Acura Integra - Spray Paint Black
- 2004 Honda Accord - Champagne
Even focusing on the cars alone, I could tell an interesting short story about each. So, lets do that:
1986 Buick Century Limited
My first ever car. Bought for $400. Towards the end of it's life we would crash it into dumpsters and wreck havoc with it. I spray painted symbols all over it, I installed a 15" dual sub woofer sound system in it. We would drive it so fast the speedometer needle would disappear. I delivered a ton of pizzas in it. Tried to pull the E-brake and ended up in the woods in a ditch one night.
1986 Ford Mustang Convertible LX - Red
$1,700. My favorite car ever. We would put the top down and do donuts in the LAP parking lot in the middle of Winter. I could power slide into everything. Filled it with water ballons and bombed kids at the bus stop during the last day of school. Heater core problems. Wrecked it on black ice.
1986 Ford Mustang Convertible LX - Blue
$1,000. Bad tranny. Did a 180 in the middle of the highway during a rain storm turning with it. Oil leak killed it. I would pour in a quart a day to keep it running.
1990 Honda Accord - Champagne
$1,000. Wife's car that I inherited when she bought the CRV. Once did 105mph in it to get around a convoy of 6 big rig trucks that were cruising in the left lane. Just died one day in Penn Hills and I have to travel 2-4 miles on foot to get to Rachel.
1989 Honda Civic - White
$500. Small little civic. Had huge subs + neon light in it. Accelerator would stick inducing the occasional panic. Once hit the brakes, car was so light is skidded a few feet down the road before it stopped.
1997 Honda CRV - Green
$7,000. First big car purchase. Primarily Rachel's car to begin with. Drove it to North Dakota, Montana, Colorado and back. Drove it to Florida. Drove it to New Orleans. Drove it to Myrtle Beach. Drove it to Toronto. Drove it to Maine.
1995 Acura Integra - Spray Paint Black
$4,200. Kids car that went through two trannys. Once traded paint with a van that tried to run me off the road. Had 17 inch low profile tires that I never replaced. Once got rear ended and spent a $2,000 insurance check. Also sold the car for $400 and sold the rims for $100. Great value for a car that lasted me 4+ years.
2004 Honda Accord - Champagne
$12,000. Current ride. Drove it to Wyoming and back. Great car, most reliable car thus far. Got first real PA speeding ticket with it. Drives so good its hard to even know your going fast. Features my Wyoming licence plate on the front.
There we go, some good material for the book.
