On trips to my grandfathers house, I would gaze at this thing for long periods of time. The way the mountains rose up from the great plains, to the extreme slopes of Hawaii and Alaska, I was quite interested in this map.
I have always loved geography. Now I couldn't draw you a map of Europe, or even fill in countries completely on a blank map, but I sure do know the United States, let alone North America. I've traveled to 39 of these 50 states. I still haven't been to some of the largest, namely Texas and Alaska.
My grandfather and I shared a ton of things in common that way. I love to travel, as did he. I draw lines on a large map of the US of everywhere I go, so did he. Travel photography, same thing. I never realized how much I'm like him until I was in about my mid 20's. The similarities just never occurred to me.
Now this map hangs in my room, and I'm quite proud to own it.
About Project 2011.52
[Project 2011.52 is a personal photography/writing project that I want to attempt this year. The rules are this: Each week in 2011 (Starting Jan 02-Jan 08) I take the time to take one photo of an important person or thing in my life, to write at least 2 paragraphs about it, and to record a short video during the week.]
