Artificial Intelligence

What else do you title an AI post these days? I'm not feeling clever, so I keep it as generic as possible.

AI, and specifically its ability to be a useful tool, continues to climb. Like the microprocessor, it's limited by hardware today. You can't run a meaningful one on your own machine at the scale you are used to getting online. So much web technology is tied up in huge platforms. What to run an online store? You should probably get on Shopify. Running one yourself is entirely possible, but it's likely going to be more expensive; you won't get integrated into the larger SHOP network, and you'll work harder.

Want to build an online community and get people to join you? That's still tough. Even the ones with a small bit of a heartbeat get little traffic. The internet I knew as a teenager is so different today. I would jump online, hit up Yahoo! Chat, talk to friends, play Java games in the browser like Checkers, Chess, Poker, Scrabble (Litari). Now it's large social networks and websites that keep getting worse and worse as profits matter more than functionality. But to be fair, that is what happened with Yahoo!. They wanted to buy up a bunch of services and be everything, and they forgot to be themselves: a search engine. Google ate them up.
